[  Banana  ]

A banana is a fruit where more starch, a source of sweetness, is stored as it grows. It features a difference in taste by growing district, such as bananas that are carefully grown in the highlands of the Philippines where there is a large temperature difference between day and night feature a sweet aftertaste and those grown in Ecuador, an equatorial country, feature a sweet taste and a chewy texture. Bananas that are imported unripe to comply with the Plant Protection Act require a process called after-ripening. Funasho Shoji is the professional at banana processing and has own processing facilities. We provide high-quality bananas that only banana experts can offer.

[  Kiwifruit  ]

While kiwifruit has become one of standard fruits, Funasho Shoji started handling it way before it became popular in Japan. The kiwifruit is a fruit that requires an after-ripening process as bananas and avocados. However, since its color does not change as significantly as bananas, the ripeness of or the best time to eat kiwifruit can be determined only by touching it. While the harvesting season of kiwifruit is autumn, it is made available throughout the year by relaying production from one growing district to another ("growing-district relay "), such as Japan, South Korea, and the United States in the Northern Hemisphere and New Zealand and Chile in the Southern Hemisphere and by leveraging the fact that the unripe kiwifruit has excellent keeping quality. At our company, the Kiwifruit Department dedicated to handling kiwifruit works closely with kiwifruit-producing areas to achieve stable supply throughout the year.

[  Tropical  ]

Tropical fruit is a collective term for fruits produced in tropical regions. Since these fruits can be grown only in tropical regions, some of them were not available in Japan. However, the number of varieties available in Japan has increased in recent years from improved processing and preservation technologies. A large number of unique fruits, including avocado known as butter of the forest, belong to this category, creating a distinctive atmosphere. Funasho Shoji handles an array of different varieties including rare fruits that are not available in large quantities. For main items that are traded in large quantities, the company sends staff to growing districts to select suppliers, obtain enough quantity, and improve quality.

In the Philippines and Indonesia where pineapples are grown, cultivation and harvesting are conducted throughout the year by leveraging the mild climate, and therefore, pineapples are available throughout the year in Japan. Funasho Shoji has been handling pineapples since the time when the import of pineapples started in Japan and has built a track record in the provision of high-quality pineapples. The company is capable of responding to unforeseen circumstances, including decreased import volume due to bad weather in growing districts, in a flexible manner, such as promptly securing pineapples in different growing districts for stable supply. Our company handles popular brands that we have selected with a focus on the sweet and sour balance, texture, and flavor. These brands feature high sugar content, rich taste, and the best sweet and sour balance.

[  Citrus  ]

Citrus fruits, such as lemons and oranges, have long been used as food effective in maintaining good heath, such as prevention of scurvy that is caused by vitamin C deficiency. In recent years, their antioxidant properties that are expected to prevent aging, cancer, and arteriosclerosis attract much attention. Funasho Shoji handles all citrus fruits available in the world from those familiar to Japanese people to rare ones. The number of citrus fruit types we handled during our early days was five. Among these, three types were orange, lemon, and grapefruit. Since then, we have come to handle a wide range of citrus fruits, including the Murcott tangor similar to mandarin oranges, Minneola that looks like a small Dekopon, and Melogold that is a variety developed in recent years. We provide the main three citrus fruits, which we have been handling since our early days, throughout the year via growing-district relay.

[  Cherry  ]

In 1992, the import of American cherries was liberalized. However, it was in 1984, eight years before the liberalization, when Funasho Shoji started selling American cherries. Since their prices were lower than those of domestic cherries, the import volume of American cherries increased every year. While they have many varieties, most of the American cherry varieties imported to Japan feature a larger size, a darker color, a richer taste, and a meatier flesh than Japanese cherries. In particular, the American cherries that are grown in Washington and harvested from June to July are deemed cherries of the highest quality and very popular in the United States. Although it is difficult to manage the quality of American cherries, our company achieves the safe and secure delivery of fresh cherries by importing them right after they are harvested through our own transport network. Savor the color and gloss, size, meatiness , and the sweet and sour balance that only American cherries can offer to your heart' content.

[  Grape  ]

Since it started selling Red Globe in 1984, Funasho Shoji has handled various varieties of grapes that were produced in different areas. When the import of grapes started, grapes produced in Chile and America were popular since they were available during the seasons when Japanese grapes were not available. In recent years, the import of Australian and Mexican grapes has been increasing due to their low prices, good taste, and easiness to eat and they are available throughout the year. Since people overseas do not peel grapes before eating, many countries institute stricter regulations on agrichemicals than Japan. Funasho Shoji handles only high-quality, safe, and secure grapes that meet the strict overseas requirements. Try grapes without peeling , and your mouth will be filled with fresh fruit juice and a refreshing flavor.

A berry is a collective name for small, pulpy fruits. The sweet and lovely appearance of berries, such as blueberries, blackberries, and raspberries, fascinate people. Funasho Shoji chases the season of different types of berries across the world and selects berries of the highest quality from different growing districts. Since there is a constant demand for berries throughout the year for use in confectionery, steady supply is essential. Our company achieves steady supply via the growing-district relay between Mexico and America. Among others, the big, dark blueberries that are grown by Mexican farmers and fully ripened on the tree have an excellent sweet, sour, and flavor balance. This proud product has received a high reputation.

[  Mango  ]

Mangoes are said to have originated in India; they have been grown in Southeast Asia for a long time. In Japan, mangoes are grown in greenhouses due to the climate and used mainly to eat raw. The import of mangoes is limited to specific species from certain countries that have fulfilled designated inspection and pesticide requirements to prevent fruit flies, a hazardous pest, from entering Japan. A ban on the import of mangoes has been lifted in sequence for those whose safety has been confirmed: a ban on the import of mangoes grown in Thailand was lifted in 1987 while that on Australian mangoes was lifted in 1994, that on Brazilian mangoes was lifted in 2004, and that on Indian mangoes was lifted in 2006. The latest example is Vietnamese mangoes whose import ban was lifted in 2015. Currently mangoes are imported from a wide variety of growing districts. In an effort to deliver different types of high-quality, in-season mangoes, Funasho Shoji cooperates closely with growing districts and implements thorough quality control.

[  Vegetable  ]

While the vegetable self-sufficiency rate is almost 80% in Japan, the volume and types of imported vegetables are increasing every year. Among the imported vegetables, there are many rare vegetables that we have never seen before.
Funasho Shoji handles a variety of vegetables to enrich meals of Japanese people. While some people are concerned that imported vegetables may contain more residual agricultural chemicals than domestically produced vegetables, the imported vegetables are inspected according to the same strict standards as those applied to domestic vegetables, and we distribute only those that have passed strict tests.
